Many of you know that my grandfather has been very sick for months. He was in the hospital for 41 days and suffering from cancer. The Lord took him to glory last Saturday, August 20th. We left Monday for Arkansas and stayed until yesterday. The viewing was on Tuesday evening and the funeral was on Wednesday. It was good to spend time with Chad & Courtney, who we have not seen since the wedding, but would have loved for it to be different circumstances. My grandfather was a wonderful man. He was like a second father to Chad and I since we spent every summer of our lives with them in Arkansas. He was an amazing Chrisitian and up until the day he died would preach God's word to anyone who would listen. This has really made me think. Do I do that in my life? Am I willing to talk about God to anyone who will listen? I feel like so many times we let life take over and forget that this is just a temporary home and our Heavenly Father is waiting to take us home to eternity. One thing I have learned this week , is to be open about God with everyone. Don't hold back or be afraid. I will carry on my grandfather's legacy by taking this new approach in life. I will make sure that everyone I come in contact with knows about God. I am thankful for Papa's life and what it meant to me and so many people who came, called and emailed to express their sympathy. The love that rallied around our family was amazing. Til next time......

As you know Liam was born on March 15, 2011 at 9:48am. He weighed 8 lbs. and 3oz. After a brief stay in NICU, he was brought back to us around 4pm. He has been an added joy to our family and we are proud to show off his pictures. It has been a long road to this point but we are so thankful for this blessing that God has so graciously given us. Okay so I have not blogged since Christmas, but can I just say my life has been crazy!!!! We went to Arkansas for Christmas to visit my grandparents and then came back in January. Since then it has been full steam ahead with baby stuff. I feel so bad because at this point with Alyssa I had everything done! They say with the second child, things are not so grand and on time like with the first. I swore that would not be me and guess what ~ It is! Anyway, we are finishing up the nursery soon and I will post pics for everyone to see. Only 4 and a half weeks left! Hard to believe. Til next time.....

Elf Sightings for the Week of December 5th - 11th

So this was Jingles first official full week at the Chesser house and boy was he busy. On Sunday December 5th Jingles made snowman out of white moon dough, some of mommy's sewing ribbon and chocolate chips. On Monday the 6th, Jingles popped popcorn and went downstairs to watch Star Wars on the big screen. He took one of Alyssa's capri suns and played with daddy's star wars figures. On Tuesday the 7th, Jingles made Alyssa some chocolate chip cookies and left them in a Christmas tin on the stove. On Wednesday the 8th, Jingles made a zip line from the kitchen fixture to a nail in the wall. He convinced two of Alyssa's Barbies to join him as he zipped across the room. On Thursday the 9th, Jingles snuck into Alyssa's room and took her Uno Moo game. He got Chloe and Poodle (Build a Bears) and challenged them to a game. On Friday the 10th, after a long week he decided to take the night off and keep Alyssa company in her bed. On Saturday the 11th, Jingles got a bucket and climbed to the top of Alyssa's mirror in the bathroom to leave her a message. It said, "So far so good, Keep up the good work!" On December 1st, Santa sent one of his helpers to the Chesser home to visit until Christmas Eve. His name is Jingles and he is a magic Elf. At night, Alyssa has to tuck him in his sleeping bag and sprinkle him with magic snowflakes for him to come alive. While we are all sleeping he does very mischievous things around the house. For instance on December 1st, he took some hangers from mine and Jon's closet and connected them to make a ladder climbing up to our living room fan. On December 2nd, he took Alyssa's blocks and built a fort with Handy Manny. Then they snuck some marsh mellows from the pantry and had a snowball fight. Alyssa was angry because he wasted her marsh mellows and she had to throw them away! On December 3rd he went to Alyssa's bathroom and left elf poop on and in the toilet. When Alyssa found him he was wrapped in toilet paper. (Note: Elf poop is chocolate chips) If you have a hard time seeing the pictures below, you can double click on them to make them larger. October Events

Most of you know that two weeks ago Jon had to have shoulder surgery. We were so thankful for everyone's thoughts and prayers. Everything with the surgery went well and he is doing great. Right after surgery I felt like we started rolling and never stopped. I am waiting to come up for air but I realize the holidays are just around the corner. I am just now posting what happened in October. We went on Sunday after Jon's surgery Thursday to our SS teachers house for our class fall party. This was Jon's first outing. Everyone commented on how "relaxed" he was. I am sure the medicine had nothing to do with that (wink, wink) Anyway, we had a hay ride, fed the miniature ponies, helped collect eggs from the chickens and roasted marsh mellows. We had a great time. The following Thursday, one week post op, Alyssa had her class Halloween party at school. This was Jon's firs party experience since they are always during the day while he is at work. He was wishing he felt as good as he did at Joey & Kelly's after that party. Sugar and eighteen 4 year olds make a great mix! Saturday night before Halloween we got together with the playgroup and ate chili and went Trick or Treating in the Hidden Brook neighborhood. Mr. Hugh made a hay ride for us and we used that to circle the neighborhood. It was great to get the kids and families back together. All of the kids are in different classes at school this year so they were happy to be together! On Halloween we went to Middle Ridge to Trick or Treat. Our neighborhood is filled with teenagers so no one ever celebrates Halloween there. My parents live in Middle Ridge so we always bust in on their Halloween. We had fun and Alyssa met another Dorothy while out collecting candy. We had a very busy couple of weeks, but everything was fun and went a lot better then expected. Now we just have to wait and see what November holds. Til next time.......

This has been a crazy month for the Chessers. On October 11th the kids were out of school so the playgroup went to the zoo. That was our first time to go in awhile because it has been so hot. Unfortunately Spencer, Trent and Mrs. Kerri couldn't go with us. We had a good time and Alyssa was excited about being back at the zoo. Not as excited as she was about Homecoming at Alabama. We took her to her first football game last year and she loved it. When football season rolled around her first question was "What game am I going to?" Needless to say Jon and I had to get tickets and fast. We had a lot of fun. On Monday her school had their annual Pumpkin Patch field trip. We went to Camp Coleman in Trussville and the kids got to go on a nature walk, play on the playground, see and learn about different animals, go on a hayride, roast marsh mellows and pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. We went on Monday to find out what we are having and it is a BOY! I got some great news too! I am actually 19 weeks instead of 18. That was by far the fastest week of my pregnancy! Things are looking good and everyone is doing fine. We are awaiting Jon's surgery tomorrow on his shoulder. I will be sure to post and update on him as well as pics. Til next time.....

Alyssa had to dress up as a community helper at school today. She chose to wear her doctor outfit and take her stethoscope. This morning she told me she was going to be a doctor like Aunt Court! For those of you who don't know, my brother married a doctor and her name is Courtney. They also had a fire fighter come visit their school. She came home telling Jon and I that we need to get a fire safety plan and a meeting place outside for after the fire. Guess we better get started on that! Til next time.....

So I have been a little behind with my blogs and just like my sewing blog, I have finally updated our family blog. I decided to just hit the highlights from this year instead of posting everything. It starts with the Pumpkin Patch Trip last weekend, our latest addition to the Chesser family, our 4th of July trip to Arkansas followed by Alyssa's 4th Birthday and ends with amazing pictures from my brother Chad's wedding in Yosemite National Park this past April. For those of you who may not have known Jon and I are expecting again. The ultrasound picture is from our first visit at 9 weeks. Thanksgiving in Gatlinburg, Fall Program at School and Disney on Ice

November was a busy month but no where near as busy as December is starting off. We went to Disney on Ice for the first time and Alyssa had a ball. She loves the princesses and Minnie and Mickey. Alyssa had her second Fall Program at school. They quoted a verse, sang "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands" and "I'm a little Turkey." It was so cute. She did a great job and as normal hammed it up. We went to Gatlinburg this year for Thanksgiving and had a blast. We went to Ober Gatlinburg, shopped and played putt-putt. I finally got Alyssa's three year pictures done about a month ago. My friend Rachel took them for me. We tried from August until October to get them made but it rained every Friday. Finally we were able to get together and the weather was perfect other than it being cold. I thought she did a great job! I can not believe how old she looks. Til next time......

Alabama vs. S. Carolina and Tennessee

This year Jon and I were able to take Alyssa to her first Alabama game. Our friends Dennis, Tammy and Alaina asked us to go to Homecoming. Alabama played S. Carolina and won. We had such a good time. We tailgated before the game and the girls had a ball. We walked around and let Alyssa see all the floats and experience campus life. Jon and I were able to go the next week to the Tennessee game. We won that game too! It was nice to get away and enjoy a game. We have been to more games this season than any other. Well other than when I was a student there! Til next time...... The month of October was filled with lots of fun for the Chessers. I absolutely love the holiday season. We had a lot of fun things going on. At the first of the month Jon and I took Alyssa to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkin. When I was little my family went together every year to pick out a pumpkin. I wanted our family to have a similar tradition so we went to Hayden again this year. Alyssa got to go on her first school field trip this year. They went to Camp Coleman to the pumpkin patch. They made smores, went on a nature walk and hay ride and got to pick out a pumpkin. It was fun. On the Wednesday before Halloween we had a crazy day! First was Alyssa's school party. They made pumpkins and had Chick-fil-a for lunch. That night we took Noah with us to our Trunk or Treat at church. The kids had a blast! The week of Halloween Alyssa and I carved her pumpkin. That was alot of fun. We toasted the seeds and ate them afterward. Halloween night we went Trick or Treating as usual. Alyssa was not acting like herself and later on we found out why. She was sick with a cold! On Sunday we went to Joey and Kelly's, our SS teachers, and had our class Fall Festival. The kids got to ride a horse, feed ponies, go on a hay ride and roast smores. Catching You Up On Our Summer

I know it has been a long time since I have blogged so in this one blog, I am going to catch you up on our summer.

June 21st - Alyssa celebrated her 3rd birthday by having a party at our house. She invited her close friends and we played on the Slip N Slide, swam in the pool, played on the playground and even had a horse shoe game. It was so hot we crammed everyone in our basement to eat and have cake and presents. It was a lot of fun. On Sunday, her actual birthday/Father's Day we had the family over for cake and ice cream in honor of Alyssa and the Dads. It was a lot of fun but a crazy weekend. I made her cake again this year and it was a monkey cake. The overall theme was Curious George.

July 4th - My grandparents came from Arkansas to visit. They decided to wait and come after Alyssa's birthday so we could have time to actually visit. We went to the 4th of July Celebration at Trussville. It was alot of fun and the Fireworks were great!

July 12 - 18th - We decided this year to take Alyssa on a big vacation. We usually just go to the beach, but this year we decided she was old enough to go on a cruise. We went out of Miami and went to Turks and Caicos, Half Moon Cay and Nassau Bahamas. It was Alyssa's first time to fly on a plane or be on a boat. We had a blast and she did suprisingly well. We went to Atlantis and spent the day when we were in Nassau and really enjoyed that. Overall it was a great family vacation!

August 13th - Alyssa went back to school. She started 3K this year. It is so hard to believe she is three. Mrs. Kerri (one of my best friends) is her teacher this year.

Labor Day - We went for our final hoorah for the summer to Destin on Labor Day weekend. We met our friends Dennis and Tammy and their daughter Alaina and Sandra and her son Brent down there. We had a good time, but Alyssa was sick with a sinus infection. We had perfect weather and spent a lot of time on the beach. You will notice I have no beach pictures b/c I never took my camera to the beach. It was my last vacation and yes I was lazy!

Easter

It is hard to believe that Easter has already come and gone. Where does the time go. We had a very good Easter, but it was very busy. It started on Thursday when Alyssa's school had an Easter Egg Hunt for their party. On Saturday morning we had our Sunday School party and hunted eggs in the freezing cold. I told Jon that I hoped one Easter of Alyssa's life she could hunt eggs without a coat and hat. After that we went to my parents to eat lunch and hunt eggs yet again in the cold. On Sunday we went to church and then to Jon's parents to hunt eggs. We made the usual family rounds. It was so neat to see Easter through Alyssa's eyes this year. She realized for the first time why we celebrate Easter. She would tell the story that, "the soldiers came to get Jesus and killed him b/c they did not like him. Then they would take him to the cave and leave him there. The next day they went to check on him and he was gone b/c he went to heaven to be with God." It was so sweet to hear her tell the story of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is amazing how innocent it sounds coming from her. I hope you and your families all had a very Happy Easter!!!! What a crazy year!!!!!

Where do I begin. Things have been so crazy for us lately. Jon was moved out of his position at work back in February and will now have a pay cut starting May 1st. We have been contemplating me going back to work, but decided to try and wait it out a year and see how the market goes. We are completely blessed that he still has a job so to God be the glory for that!!!!! I had to have a tooth extracted two weeks ago and am having a hard time recovering. I get tired real easy and my pain causes headaches. I am slowly getting better though. A huge praise for us is the fact that my business is picking up. I absolutely love sewing and working on my machine. I have to be careful or I would do it 24-7. Needless to say we are glad February and March are over and are looking forward to the rest of the year. Happy Easter everyone and remember to thank God for all he has done for us including sacrificing his only son for our sins. He is ALIVE!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!!! Til next time!!!!

March Snow in Alabama

On March 1st, believe it or not we got snow in Alabama of all places. The Chesser family spent almost all of the month of February sick. We all had that lovely sinus crud that was going around. For three weeks we laid around the house and did nothing. On March 1st we followed our normal Sunday morning routine. We got ready for church and headed out. We had some snow at our house but just a dusting. The roads were clear and our driveway was too! As we started into to Trussville the snow began to fall and pretty steady. We got on to I-59 and right past Deerfoot Parkway the interstate was closed. We finally made it to church and us along with 75 other people (our church has almost 4,000 members) continued with Sunday School. After that we started home and the snow was starting to melt. By the time we got back to our house, the snow was gone in our yard. We went next door to Joe and Sandy's house and made a snowman and played in the snow. My mom said we were so ready to get out of our house that we were the only ones crazy enough to get out in this weather. That is so true!!!! Alyssa had a blast in the snow and loved making a snowman. Needless to say we had a good time. Alyssa is only 2 and a half and has already seen to snow falls in her life. If she keeps this up she will have seen more than me in no time. Good news!!! Chad made it home on February 28th. We joked and said he brought the snow with him from Antartica. We are glad to have him home!!! Til next time!!!!

I am so excited about my brother coming home from Antartica. He is supposed to be here by the end of next week. We have not seen him since November and we miss him alot. He left Antartica two weeks ago and has been traveling through New Zealand. I was excited to see that the show the Bachelor is in New Zealand this year for his last dates. That way we can get an idea of what it looks like where Chad is. Anyway, we can't wait for him to get home. I will let you know when he gets here!!! Til then.....

The Circus

On Saturday we went to the circus for Alyssa's first trip. It was kind of bitter sweet b/c my brother's birthday was on Friday and when we were little we always went to the circus for his birthday. Since he is in Antartica (yes, I said Antartica) it was hard not having him with us. My parents bought tickets for all of us for part of Alyssa'a Christmas present. She had a blast. She kept telling us to look at everything and giggling. She was so funny. She liked everything but the way the elephants smelled (you will see below). We had a great time. I talked to Chad today and he will be home sometime at the end of the month so we are looking forward to that! Especially Alyssa. She tells him she misses him every time they talk. I know he won't admit it but one time I think he got choked up. I hope everyone is well. Have a good Valentine's Day!!!! Til next time!!!!!

My mother-in-law's birthday was Sunday so we had the whole Chesser crew to our house for dinner. (When I say crew I mean 10 and that's alot compared to my family of 4) I was nervous because Jon insisted on cooking a pork tenderloin a new way. I told him the cardinal rule is never cook something for the first time at a dinner party. Anyway, we had the tenderloin, mac & cheese (which was also a new recipe), mashed potatoes, green beans and rolls. My sister in law Traci made the cake. Everything turned out very well. I was relieved. We had a good time and enjoyed catching up. Thanks for the mac and cheese recipe Kerri. It was delicious!!! Happy Birthday Granny!!!

Last weekend we went bowling with our friends Eddie, Dedra, Noah and baby Caleb. Alyssa had a great time. They have a rack for kids that helps them keep the ball in the center so it will hit the pins. This way adults can play too without bumpers. It was so much fun. Alyssa and Noah were so cute. She was his cheerleader. Every time he did good she would say Good Job Noah! We had the best time. This weekend we have the circus so stay tuned for updates on that!

We traveled to Arkansas to see my grandparents for Christmas. We have been going every other year all of my life. It was good to see them and spend time with them. Alyssa had a great Christmas and it was a blast watching her open presents. She had us all laughing. We made cookies for Santa and she was so excited when they were gone along with the milk. I think she was more excited about that then her presents. Our family did something different for Christmas this year. With the lovely economy and the fact we have everything we need and want, we decided not to exchange presents with each other. We only bought for Alyssa. I was afraid it might be weird not having anything to open on Christmas morning but Alyssa was so much fun it was just as good if not better than opening my own present. This idea also allowed us to spend money on less fortunate families and to me that is what Christmas is all about. It makes me feel so good to know our scarifice helped someone who really needed it. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas too! Happy New Year!!!!

Alyssa's Trip to see Santa

I took Alyssa to see Santa and was concerned about how it might go. She told me before we went that Santa was grumpy. She has a fear of people dressed up lately. She cried when Jon dressed up like Elvis b/c she did not know who he was. We got to the mall at 10:00am and we were the only ones there. Santa took time to talk to her and calm her down and after that she was okay. So this pic is our result. Merry Christmas everyone!

November was a crazy month for the Chessers. Alyssa had her first program at school. They were all so cute. We went to the Chessers for Thanksgiving lunch and then headed up to Gatlinburg for the rest of the weekend. We took Alyssa to Ober Gatlinburg, the Aquarium and downtown Gatlingburg. Her favorite part was playing putt-putt with Paw and Noni and Mom and Dad. We had a great time! But the best of all came on Saturday when Alabama gave Auburn a good little SPANKING in the Iron Bowl. Got Seven? Auburn does 5 and 7!!!!!!

A Little About Us

I wanted to fill everyone in on what has been happening in the life of the Chessers. My name is Amber and my husband is Jon. We have been married for six years and have a beautiful daughter Alyssa who is two. I quit work in January of 2008 to stay at home with my little girl. It was a hard adjustment at first but now it is great. She goes to preschool two days a week and is loving it. We just got finished with Halloween. We went to three different carnivals and then went Trick or Treating on Halloween. It was a happy and sad occasion b/c my brother left on Saturday for Antarctica. He is the adventurous type and not to mention 25 and single. He returned from Alaska in August and then left for Antarctica in November. He will be there until March. We miss him already. Now that Halloween is over we are looking forward to Thanksgiving. We are taking a trip to Gatlinburg and very excited about that. Also, we are huge Alabama fans and may I say ROLLLLLL TIDE!!!!!! Number one and hanging on. Until next time!!
